Albimum (ALB) is one of two major proteins (serum protein) in the blood. This protein is manufactured in the liver and is an overall gauge of one's untritional status. High ALB levels are an indication of protein loss and dehydration. Low levels indicate liver disease. This protein assists in the transfer of waste products from the cells to the blood. Therefore, if there is a build up of toxins and wastes in the blood, then a low ALB level would indicate that the kidneys are not functioning properly in removing wastes from the blood. The mid-range is 3.45 and Korie's values have a tendency to be below mid-range.
