Alanine aminotransferase (ALT, SGPT) may indicate liver damage but it does not indicate the underlying cause of the damage. Korie's ALT values have been consistently above the accepted high level of 70. However we attribute this to the level of phenobarbital that we give her. Assume that the February 1999 value is in error and should be 149, then we see a gradual increase in the ALT values that indicate liver damage. However, the February 2000 and August 2000 values indicate that something happened in her diet or medication. In July 1998 we eliminated the drug Clorazepate from Korie's medications. About December 1998 Korie's diet was Flint River Ranch. We do not have an explanation for the "low" values in February and August of 2000. |
