I HAVE EXPRESSIONS ON MY FACE

Written by Curtis A. Gage

Dedicated to Cliffe

Please forgive me my canine traits
I know you don't think we have similar fates
I do not belong to your human race
But I do have expressions right on my face

When you are sad my jowls will turn down
When you are in danger I run all around
When you toss me my ball and I'm off to the race
I have a happy expression right on my face

I run up the stairs while my hind end is weak
I bang both my knees and let out a shriek
Believe me right now I'm stating my case
That's a look of pain I have on my face

When I fall and stretch out and paddle the air
I know when I wake my pal will be there
Excuse if I'm wrong, I may be way off base
That's quite a strange look on my good pal's face

Don't worry for me I'll come back if I can
I'm only so sad I can't talk like a man
I'd tell you I'm sorry for that time when I paced
And lost sense of sight, smell, sound and taste

Your friends tell you now that you're living a dream
They say that I'm not much more than a machine
But when they tell you that I'm such a waste
We both get a confused, sad look on our face

I'll leave you right now, I can't stand to hurt you
I know you feel awful as my tongue's turning blue
I'd end your sadness, I'd do it in haste
If only I wouldn't miss the love in your face

When the world laughs at you as if you're a clown
And tells you to put the poor thing down
Tell them to mind it, this isn't their place
And I'll stand right by you with a smile on my face
