Korie Lynn's 1997 Health Diary

{}

01/23/97 - 4:05 P.M. Home from work and Korie was not barking. She must have just had a seizure because there was urine in crate and she is wobbly and saliva on beard.
01/23/97 - 4:20 P.M. 2 minute seizure while in back yard. She actually dug a hole with her rear legs because of the thrashing. Gave 15 mg. Clorazepate.
01/23/97 - 6:15 P.M. Korie had dinner and all medications (PB, Clorazepate, KBr) - ate fine. Wagged tail before going upstairs to bed.
01/23/97 - 9:30 P.M. 1 1/2 minute seizure. This was quite vocal with usual thrashing and foaming. Gave 15 mg. Clorazepate.
01/24/97 - 12:51 A.M. 3 minute seizure. Urinated this time plus all the usual involuntary movement and foaming. She is exhausted. Gave 15 mg. Clorazepate. Went outside and pottied.
01/24/97 - 3:52 A.M. 1 minute seizure. Her breathing is heavier after this seizure. She is blind after all of the above seizures and very out of it.
01/24/97 - 4:41 A.M. 1 1/2 minute seizure.
01/24/97 - 5:45 A.M. Had breakfast and all medications (PB, Clorazepate) - ate fine but tired. She was laying on floor in guest room when I was ready to take her to Dr. Scott's for observation.
01/24/97 - 7:10 A.M. 1 minute seizure right when she got into Dr. Scott's. Foaming and some thrashing. Dr. Scott held her head and comforted her.
01/24/97 - 7:20 A.M. 1 minute seizure at Dr. Scott's - 15 mg. Diazapam.
01/24/97 - 9:15 A.M. 1 minute seizure at Dr. Scott's - 15 mg. Diazapam.
01/24/97 - 2:13 P.M. 2 minute seizure at Dr. Scott's - more thrashing this time - 15 mg. Diazapam followed by 15 mg. Clorazepate.
01/24/97 - 5:00 P.M. 30 second seizure in van just as I picked her up at Dr. Scott's. She defecated in van on the way home.
01/24/97 - 5:20 P.M. 3 minute seizure.
01/24/97 - 5:30 P.M. Had dinner and all medications (PB, Clorazepate, KBr) - ate fine.
01/24/97 - 7:06 P.M. 15 second seizure on Roy's lap. He felt her tense up before any chomping began. (The tense feeling was like a charley horse along her spine.) Talked her out.
01/24/97 - 7:15 P.M. 15 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 7:51 P.M. 30 second seizure with mostly head involvement.

01/24/97 - 8:20 P.M. 30 second seizure with mostly head involvement.
01/24/97 - 9:18 P.M. 45 second seizure with foaming, fly-biting, little bit of leg movement from time to time depending on position she is in.
01/24/97 - 9:28 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 9:38 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 9:48 P.M. 45 second seizure as above - gave 90 mg. PB.
01/24/97 - 10:09 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 10:14 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 10:20 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 10:27 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 10:32 P.M. 45 second seizure as above. Called Dr. Scott. Give another 90 mg. PB, drugs will take a bit of time to work so be patient.
01/24/97 - 10:45 P.M. 45 second seizure as above.
01/24/97 - 10:54 P.M. 3 minute seizure with foaming and thrashing.
01/25/97 - 12:15 A.M. Korie is VERY out of it, she is paceing all over the room, running into things and really drugged up. This continued until 2:30 A.M. when she finally laid down.
01/25/97 - 5:00 A.M. Korie is up to go outside and she is really " drunk ".
01/25/97 - 7:10 A.M. Had breakfast and all medications (PB, Clorazepate) - ate fine. She's definitely " not home ". Called Dr. Scott to leave a message that she is out of seizure activity.
01/25/97 - 9:30 A.M. We went out for a few hours. When we returned her crate is wet and she is still very out of it.
Comments: Korie is having problems urinating and defecating on the bedroom floor at night. She has done this just about every night through 01/30/97. We think she is finally back on Tuesday 01/28/98; she is acting more like herself but has started being picky as far as eating. Roy had to go out of town until 01/30/97 and she quit eating all together. She gets very tired as the evening goes on and doesn't want to play; just lays around.
02/02/97 Started Korie on 15 mg. Zinc.
02/18/97 - 10:45 P.M. Korie was sleeping soundly on guest room bed. We heard a noise (I was on phone). Roy went in and said she was paddling - I arrived after. There was no foaming or urination and the seizure lasted only seconds. Then she laid quietly staring at the light with large pupils. Gave a PB. She got up after a few seconds like nothing ever happened. Fine through the night and ate fine in A.M. with medications and vitamins.
04/02/97 Took Korie to Dr. Scott to check PB level plus check level of KBr in blood and do a complete blood panel. Heartworm check was also performed.
Blood work results are back on 04/05/97. The KBr level was low (78) so we increased the KBr to 2.0 cc (from 1.5 cc) on the recommendation of Dr. Scott. PB is in the lower end of the therapeutic range (23). Blood work looks good for the most part.

Korie's medications and vitamins/supplements consist of:

A.M.                              P.M.
90 mg. PB                     90 mg. PB
15 mg. Clorazepate       15 mg. Clorazepate
15 mg. Zinc                    2.0 cc KBr
25 mg. B complex
04/12/97 - 5:41 A.M. Woke up to Korie thrashing (all legs were stiff and moving), some foaming and released anals. This seizure lasted about 2 minutes. Then she just laid on floor after it was over for quite a long time. When she got up she was bumping into everything. Gave morning dose of PB and Clorazepate (as it was due at 6 A.M. anyway).
04/12/97 - 5:45 A.M. Put Korie outside and she ended up on the side of the house having a seizure. Roy carried her in and put her on the pillows in the family room to finish up. When she got up she bumped into everything.
04/12/97 - 5:57 A.M. This seizure started out as just chomping then went into a full blown seizure with legs stiff and moving, very tense body and foaming at the mouth. Just laid on floor after it was over and panted. She is pacing quite a bit after this one. Gave another dose of PB and Clorazepate. Put outside. Fed breakfast by 6:15 A.M. and she ate good. Went back to bed at 6:30 A.M. and she slept until almost 10 A.M.
04/12/97 - 12:58 P.M. Korie was in the back yard and we didn't see all of this seizure. Roy went out to see what she was doing just as she was coming out of it. She is very wobbly and had trouble walking. Her vision seems okay since she avoided a flower barrel on the way inside. She does know her name.
04/12/97 - 1:25 P.M. Korie was laying in one of the crates in the basement while I was grooming. She started to bite the air and foam at the mouth. I talked quietly to her and she came out of it. Gave her a dog biscuit. Gave another dose of PB.
Put a call into Dr. Scott and he called back. I was concerned with how much extra PB I can give Korie before ODving her. In addition to her A.M. and P.M. PB and Clorazepate I can give 2 additional Clorazepate and 4 additional PB in a 24 hour period. In fact, next time she seizures give both. Clorazepate will stop the seizure and PB will keep it stopped.
04/12/97 - 2:00 P.M. This was a very violent 4 minute seizure. Foaming and paddling and movement all over the basement floor. Did not give extra medications as she had just had them 35 minutes earlier.
04/12/97 - 5:50 P.M. Had dinner and all medications (PB, Clorazepate, KBr) - ate fine.
04/12/97 - 6:30 P.M. Seizure in guest room on bed. Roy heard her just before she would have fallen off bed and held her. She is very disoriented after this one. Gave another dose of PB and Clorazepate. She then slept soundly.
04/13/97 - 12:04 A.M. Korie woke us up to a seizure which consisted of paddling and foaming. She went back to sleep immediately after it was over.
04/13/97 - 1:11 A.M. Fly biting seizure with legs extended straight but not stiff and rigid.
04/13/97 - 1:54 A.M. Fly biting seizure as above. She did not settle down between these last two seizures. Gave another dose of PB and Clorazepate.
04/13/97 - 2:34 A.M. Fly biting seizure as above. Korie hasn't settled down at all and keeps pacing.
04/13/97 - 3:00 A.M. Fly biting seizure as above. Finally settled down and slept until 6:30 A.M.
When she woke up at 6:30 A.M. she was still uncoordinated but knew her name. Gave morning dose of PB and Clorazepate. Went outside to potty. She wants to eat everything in sight. Roy ran home at noon to check on her and she is fine. By evening she is still eating good, a little disoriented but no more seizures.
Comments: Except for the 4 minute seizure, they seemed to be less in duration and not as intense. Did not have as much unconscious time. Korie seems more with it. Only released anals once and has not urinated or defecated. I believe her disorientation is more from the amount of drugs than from the seizures. The fly biting at the end is how she ended the January 1997 cluster. It is interesting to note on Saturday we were taking a nap and she was twitching in her sleep.
05/21/97 - 12:04 A.M. Korie woke us up to a seizure with paddling and foaming at the mouth. Went back to sleep immediately.
05/21/97 - 3:40 P.M. 40 to 50 second seizure.
05/21/97 - 6:00 P.M. 1 minute seizure. Gave a PB immediately after this seizure.
05/22/97 - 1:00 A.M. 1 minute seizure.
05/22/97 - 12:10 P.M. 1 minute seizure.
06/19/97 - 3:00 A.M. This seizure lasted less than a minute. After it was over she just laid there - recovered fast.
07/17/97 - 4:44 A.M. Korie woke us up to paddling and foaming at the mouth. The seizure lasted about 2 minutes. She did urinate and released her anals a little. Afterwards, she just laid in bed and seemed to gather her senses before going outside to potty. She immediately came back inside and went back to sleep. There was no pacing or drinking of large amounts of water. She only had this one seizure. The next day she was fine.
08/10/97 - 5:04 A.M. This seizure lasted about 1 minute. Released her anals. Seemed disoriented afterwards; she jumped off the bed and was wobbly.
08/10/97 - 5:07 A.M. 2 to 3 minute seizure; this one left her blind.
08/10/97 - 5:12 A.M. Another 2 to 3 minute seizure with release of anals. Gave her a PB and Clorazepate. At 7 A.M. she had her regular morning medications with breakfast.
08/18/97 Received yearly vaccinations and rabies shot.
09/08/97 - 8:50 P.M. Korie was on the 2nd step from the bottom of the stairs when this seizure started. It lasted about 2 minutes. She laid on the floor about 2 minutes after the seizure. Gave her a PB immediately. The next day she was her normal self.
09/17/97 - 1:50 A.M. This seizure was about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes long.
09/17/97 - 2:15 A.M. This seizure lasted about 3 minutes. She was disoriented afterwards. We gave her a PB. Korie was okay when we got up for work. She got another PB at 6:15 A.M. with breakfast.
09/23/97 Took Korie to Dr. Scott to check PB level plus check level of KBr in blood and do a complete blood panel.
Blood work results are back on 09/25/97. The KBr level was low so we increased the KBr to 3.0 cc (from 2.0 cc) on the recommendation of Dr. Scott after loading her with 50 cc on Saturday. PB is in the therapeutic range. Blood work looks good for the most part.
10/19/97 - 5:38 A.M. Just before the seizure began, Korie woke up and was agitated. She was looking around nervously and knew something was wrong. The seizure lasted 2 minutes. Gave her a PB and Clorazepate.
10/19/97 - 5:50 A.M. Korie fell backwards and went into a 3 minute seizure.
10/19/97 - 6:06 A.M. Korie had breakfast and her usual morning medication and vitamins.
10/19/97 - 6:16 A.M. 2 minute seizure.
Throughout the day Korie continued to improve. By dinner time she was back to her normal self.
10/19/97 - 6:16 P.M. Korie had just eaten dinner and had her evening medication. She was laying at the top of the stairs when she went into another seizure which lasted about 2 minutes.
10/19/97 - 10:00 P.M. 2 minute seizure but came right out of it. She then stated to go into a second one and we talked her out of it.
10/19/97 - 10:05 P.M. 4 minute seizure. Foaming at the mouth, paddling, no urinating or anal release. She was blind after the seizure. She was paceing before and after the seizure. Gave her PB and Clorazepate. She bumped into things for 3 to 5 minutes after the seizure. Tried to give her honey but she would not take it.
10/19/97 - 10:35 P.M. Korie had gone outside and went into a 2 to 3 minute seizure. Kathi carried her inside where it was warm.
10/20/97 - 1:30 A.M. 1 to 2 minute seizure. Foaming and paddling. Gave her PB, Clorazepate and Zinc.
10/20/97 - 1:53 A.M. Another 2 minute seizure.
10/20/97 - 3:51 A.M. 1 to 2 minute seizure. Gave her PB, Clorazepate and Vitamin C.
10/20/97 - 12:45 P.M. Roy came home at lunch to check on Korie. Suspect that she may have had at least 1 seizure in her crate. The crate was moved about 8" into the door way. She had also urinated in the crate.
10/20/97 - 3:00 P.M. Suspect she may have had another seizure. She defecated in the crate and it was again moved about 12" into the door way.
10/20/97 - 6:00 P.M. Korie had dinner and usual medication and vitamins. She is acting fine.

12/04/97 Suspect she may have had one while we were at work because there was urine in her crate.
12/04/97 - 10:30 P.M. Korie was resting on guest room bed and had a 2 minute seizure. She is really out of it bumping into things. Gave PB. Okay through the night except for getting up and urinating/defecating on the bedroom floor.
12/05/97 Suspect she may have had a seizure or two while we were at work. Her mat was soaking wet with urine plus she defecated everywhere. Gave complete bath.
12/29/97 - 6:21 A.M. Seizure lasted approximately 1 minute and she released anals. Fine afterwards. Gave breakfast and A.M. medications.
12/29/97 - 11:51 P.M. Seizure lasted less than 1 minute and she urinated. This woke her out of a sound sleep. Gave PB, Clorazepate and Zinc. Seemed a bit out of it with pacing but soon recovered.
Comment: Roy came home on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at lunch to check on her and she was fine.
